Android App – FAQ

Guide to your first design

Once you have downloaded the Desygner App, follow these steps to navigate our application like a PRO!

  • Press the app
  • The first page will show you available templates, please note that the “locked” ones are for Premium Users.
  • Select your first template by pressing on the type, format, and then your favorite model. I suggest you start with a similar template that you want, please note that you can change the text, images, and elements in the editor.
  • Click on the template you wish to edit.
  • Click “Create New Project”

You will be then brought to the editor, you can change any element in the project by following this guide:

  • To add an element, like an image, text, or sticker, press on the “+” at the bottom of the screen.
    • If you are adding an image, press “image”
    • If you are adding text, press “text”
    • If you are adding elements, press “elements”
  • To edit an element, that is already in the project, press the element.
    • If it is an image, you can replace it, reposition it, change the fill color, and change the opacity.
    • If it is a text box, you can duplicate it, edit the text, change the font, size, fill color, opacity, style, alignment, spacing, and rotate it.
    • If it is a sticker, you can change the fill color, you can change the size, flip it, and duplicate it.

Once you are done with your project, you can export, download, or save it by pressing the 3 dots in the bottom right corner.

Answers regarding images

How do I download with a transparent background?

This is a step by step guide to how to download a PNG image with a transparent background, using the Desygner App.

  • Go to the project that requires the background to be transparent.
  • The first way to make the background transparent is to press the current background and delete it. There will be an automatic background, that is made of squares. This background will be transparent. 
    Please note that if elements are in front of the background, you may need to move them to access the background.
  • The second way to make the background transparent is to press the “+” icon at the bottom of the screen
  • Press “Images”
  • Press the background icon, that is at the top right of your screen
  • Select “Transparent background”

To download the background as transparent:

  • click the 3 small dots
  • Press export,
  • Press the download icon
  • Press “download as PNG”

The background will be saved on your phone as a PNG file with a transparent background.

How do I edit images?

To edit an image please follow these steps:
– From your current project, inside the App
– Press the “+” Icon at the bottom of the screen
– Press Image
– Press on the image you would like to use
– At the bottom of the screen, editing options will appear

If you are working with a template and image placeholders,
– Click on the current image in the placeholder
– Click replace
– Select the image

Editing options, that are available at the bottom of the screen when you press the image
– You can reposition the image by pressing ” Reposition”
– You can change the “Opacity”
– You can use the image as a “Background”
– You can also flip the image, “Flip”

How do I change the background?

To change the background follow one of these steps, from your design:

  • Press the “+” icon
  • Press “Image”
  • Press the background icon
  • From here you can “Pick a color”, place a “Transparent” background, or choose a category

If you want to make an image the back ground, follow these steps:

  • Add the image to your design
  • At the bottom of the screen, a menu will have appeared
  • Scroll it until you find the “Use as background” icon
  • To adjust the image, press on the background
  • Press the “Reposition” icon

How do I use image placeholders?

To use image placeholders, follow these steps:

  • From your design
  • Press the “+”
  • Press elements
  • Press “SHAPES”, please note you can only convert shapes
  • Choose the element you would like to convert into an image box
  • Press it
  • At the bottom of the screen, a menu will appear
  • Scroll it until you see “Convert to image box”
  • Press it
  • Now press the image placeholder
  • Press “Replace”
  • Select the image
  • You can adjust the position by pressing “Reposition”

How do I crop an image?

To crop an image from your design, follow these steps:

  • Add the image to your design
  • Press the image
  • Move the four icons that are at the top, bottom, left, and right of your image
  • Press and drag the icons to crop the image
  • To adjust the image, press “reposition”
  • Tap the screen to confirm the crop

Are the images really free to be used?

All of our royalty free images are free for anyone to use. This means that all of the images you search online for are free to be used by anyone. These images have been donated by the artist for general use. Aren’t they awesome!

You can use them without having the worry about copyright infringement or other types of repercussions.

How do I add images?

From the App, go to your design, and press the “+” at the bottom of the screen

  • Press “image”
  • The page you will be brought to will show the images on your phone first, you can add them by pressing them.
  • To search online for “Royalty Free Images”, press “Search online images”. Then enter a word to describe the image you would like. For example, write “beach” for images of beaches. Then press the image you like.
  • Premium Users will have access to “Brand Kit” this is where they can save unique elements.
  • Press the background icon, and select the type of background you would like.

Answers regarding elements

How do I group elements?

To group elements together, follow these steps:

  • From your design, press, and drag over the elements, you would like to group. A blue square should highlight the elements.
    – Press the “Group” Icon

The elements are now grouped together, you can reverse this action by pressing “ungroup”.

How do I copy and paste elements?

Please note you can only copy and paste elements from the desktop version.

Once you have logged into your Desygner desktop account, press your design, and press “Edit”.

  • Then drag your mouse over the elements you would like to copy and paste
  • Press Ctrl C, to copy
  • Then go to the place you would like to paste the elements and press Ctrl V
  • The elements should have been copied and pasted.

How do I add elements? Such as Stickers and Shapes

From the App, go to your design, and press the “+” at the bottom of the screen

  • Press “elements”
  • You can browse this category to add “STICKERS”, and “SHAPES”.

To add a sticker, press “STICKER”

  • You can filter the categories by pressing “Filter by category”
  • Press the sticker you would like to add to your design
  • You can then edit the color, size, rotation, and more

To add a shape, press “SHAPES”

  • You can filter the categories by pressing “Basic”
  • Press the shape you would like to add to your design
  • You can then edit the color, size, rotation, and more

For Premium Users, they will have access to “Brand Kit”, this is where they can add items or retrieve saved ones.

Answers regarding texts and fonts

How do I add my own font?

To add your own font, you need 3 things before you start:

  1. A saved document with your font in it.
  2. You can only download them from the desktop version of Desygner.
  3. This option is only available for premium users

Once you are on the desktop version of Desygner (, follow these steps:

  • Login to your Desygner account
  • Click on “Library”, it should be on the top right corner of the screen.
  • Click on “Add Font”
  • Upload your font.
  • The font will now be available in your library and “Brand Kit”, you can now use it on the desktop and mobile version.

How do I center text?

Thank you for your question, to center text from the App, follow these steps:
– Click on the current text box
– There will be a menu that will appear at the bottom of the screen
– Scroll it
– Click on “Text Alignment”
– Press the option you would like

How do I change the color of the text?

To change the color of the text, follow these steps:

  • Go to your design editor
  • Press on the text you would like to change the color
  • At the bottom of the screen an editing menu will open, you can scroll it
  • Scroll the menu until you see a circle with “Fill color” underneath it.
  • Press it
  • You can choose from recently used colors and colors in the design
  • You can also add a new one by pressing the “+” icon
  • You can then select the color for your design
  • Press the check to apply it to your design

How do I change the Font?

To change the font in your text box, that is inside your design, follow these steps:

  • Press on the text
  • At the bottom of the screen an editing menu will open, you can scroll it
  • Scroll the menu until you see the “Font” icon
  • Press it
  • You can scroll to see the different types of Fonts or type to search
  • Press on your favorite Font
  • Press on your design to return to the main editor

How do I change the Font size?

To change the size of your font, that is inside your design editor, follow these steps:

  • Press on the text
  • At the bottom of the screen an editing menu will open, you can scroll it
  • Scroll the menu until you see the “Font” icon
  • Press it
  • You can change the size of your font by dragging your finger across the “Size” menu
  • Press on your design to return to the main editor

How do I add text?

From the App, go to your design, and press the “+” at the bottom of the screen

  • Press “text”
  • You will have different types of text boxes you can add, the first types are “Add heading”, “Add subheading”, and “Add body text”. Click on the option you would like.
  • The Second type is “TEXT BANNER”, you can scroll down to see all the options, press on your favorite style to add it.
  • The third type is “BRAND KIT” this is only for premium users, this is where their saved fonts will be available.

To edit the text, click on the text box and the editing options will appear at the bottom of the screen.

How do I find friends on Desygner?

To find friends in the Desygner Community, follow these steps:

  • Open the Desygner App
  • Press “Community”
  • Press “Find Friends”
  • From this page, you will have 3 options, you can either search in the Desygner account, your contacts or invite them by email
  • For example, if they are already members of Desygner, press Desygner
  • Enter the username of your friend
  • Add them as a friend

How do I “Team up” with other Desygners?

Want to team up with friends, or other desygners? Follow these steps:

  • Open the Desygner App
  • Press “My Projects”
  • At the left of each of your projects, you should see 3 dots, press it
  • Press “Team up”
  • From here you can add “Co-desygners” that can edit the project and invite others or you can “Tag” people to see the changes you have made.

What is Desygner Community?

Desygner Community is a program within the app that permits you to share your designs with others. That way you can compare, like, and share other designs.

You can also find your friends that have a Desygner Account and collaborate with them. To do this, follow these steps:

  • Open the Desygner App
  • Press “Community”
  • From this page, you can “Find Friends”, “Explore”, or see all your “Friends”

If you don’t want to share your designs with the Desygner Community, you can change the privacy setting of your projects. To do this, click on this link How do I make my designs private?

Help with projects

How do I find templates?

To find templates for your new design, simply open the App and the first page will bring you to all our available templates.

At the top of the screen you will see the various types that are available, please note that you can scroll the top to see all the different options.

Once you have selected the type, you can choose the size or style by pressing one of the available options under the type. For example, if you choose “Social Posts”, press the Facebook Icon for the correct size for Facebook posts.

You can now select the template for your design, you can scroll down to see all the options. Once you have chosen your favorite simply click on it, and press “Create New Project” or “Add to Project”.

How do I duplicate a page in a project?

To duplicate a page in a design, follow these steps:

  • Click on the Desygner App
  • Press “My Projects”
  • Click on the project that has the page you would like to duplicate
  • Press the pages icon, it is the icon that looks like pages with a number in it. It should be at the bottom right of the screen.
  • Press the duplicate icon, it is in between the delete and download icons.
  • You have now duplicated your page

Can I have multiple designs in one project?

Yes, you can have multiple designs in one project, from our App, follow these steps:

  • Click on the Desygner App
  • Press “My Projects”
  • Click on the project that you would like to add designs
  • Press the pages icon, it is the icon that looks like pages with a letter in it. It should be at the bottom right of the project.
  • Press the blue “+” icon
  • You can then add a new template to your project.

How do I edit a saved project?

To edit a saved project, simply follow these steps:
– Open your Desygner App
– At the bottom left corner, you will see “My projects”
– Press it
– All of your previous projects will be visible, please note that you may need to scroll the page to see them all.
– Each project should have an image visible, to help you remember, and the small number in the right corner is the number of pages in that project.
– Press on the project you would like to edit
– After the page has loaded, you should be able to edit the project.

How do I export a project? Such as downloading and sharing

Once you have completed your design, follow these steps:

  • Press the “Export” icon, that is at the top right corner of the screen


  • Press the 3 dots, that are in the bottom right corner of your editing screen
  • To save the changes you have made, press “Save”
  • To pick another design, press “Change template”, you may want to save your changes before pressing this option.
  • To export your project, press “Export”, you can then share it on social media or download it by pressing the download icon. You have the option to download it as JPG, PNG, or PDF.

How do I change the background?

To change the background follow one of these steps, from your design:

  • Press the “+” icon
  • Press “Image”
  • Press the background icon
  • From here you can “Pick a color”, place a “Transparent” background, or choose a category

If you want to make an image the back ground, follow these steps:

  • Add the image to your design
  • At the bottom of the screen, a menu will have appeared
  • Scroll it until you find the “Use as background” icon

  • Then press the medium that you would like to share the design with
  • Don’t forget to tag or share your design with us!

How can I make my own format?

To make a custom format, simply follow these steps:

  • Open the Desygner App
  • Press the setting icon
  • Press “Add your own format”, it is at the bottom of the screen
  • Enter the information
  • Press create
  • The format will be saved under “Custom”, press the custom format and then select a template that fits that size or start from new

How do I use layers?

To use layers inside of the app, beginning from your design, follow these steps:

  • Press the layer icon, that is in the left corner
  • You should see all the templates in your text, from here you can easily edit a layer
  • Select a layer you would like to edit by pressing the layer
  • You should then be able to easily edit the layer

Note the menu at the bottom of the screen, that contains diverse features for customization.

How do I delete a project?

To delete a project, follow these steps:

  • Open the Desygner App
  • Press “My Projects”
  • Each of your projects will have 3 dots in the top right corner
  • Press it
  • Press “delete”
  • Press “delete” again

Account Setting

Can I use my Desygner creations for my business?

Yes, you can! We simply can not be held responsible for any copyright infringements done with our editor. 

If you want to make sure you are not breaking any copyright laws, you can use “Royalty Free Images”.

The “Royalty Free Images” are available in our editor, simply tick the box “Royalty Free Images” on the desktop version.

In the App, they can be found simply by searching on “Search online images”.

I’m confused with the payment options

The first option is to be a free user, you will have limited access to templates, downloads, storage, and images.

The second it to be a premium user, as a premium user you will get access to all our images, templates, features, and more.

The third is our business plan, We Brand, this offers the possibility to share designs with members, lock the elements, maintain brand integrity, and ensure consistency. You can also control the content that your members write, for example, stopping profanity.

How do I deactivate my account? ☹

How do I change the language?

To change the language of your Desygner account, you will have to change the language on the desktop version.

  • Press “Change privacy”
  • Under Privacy, you should see the current privacy setting

What is Brand Kit?

The brand kit is only available to Desygner Premium users, all saved images, fonts, texts, elements, and more can be stored in the “Brand Kit”.

The kit is made to facilitate the creation of designs that need specific elements in them. For example, a saved font can be stored in the Brand kit and used in multiple designs easily.

There are currently two variations of geofilters available:

Creating your own On-Demand Geofilter

Step 1: Designing

If you are lacking in design skills and aren’t experienced with Adobe Photoshop or Illustrator then Desygner is a great alternative with its vast range of Snapchat templates that are simple to edit. The templates available cover a variety of occasions to meet your needs, whether for a birthday, business, celebration or just for fun. Desygner also provides you with the option of designing your own Snapchat geofilter from scratch using a blank canvas.


Creating with Desygner:


    1. Go to

    2. Select Snapchat Geofilters from the Social Media Posts section.

    3. Choose to either start from scratch with a blank canvas or simply use one of the free templates available.

    4. Choose from a variety of royalty free images, stickers, fonts and shapes to use in your geofilter.

    5. Remember to only use the top or bottom 25% of the screen so that snapchatters can still view their original photo behind your filter as seen in the chart below from Snapchat.

    6. Once you are happy with your work, click ‘Save’ and then ‘Download’ it. Remember to pick the .PNG format, transparent background option and make sure it is under 300KB in size.



Design tips:

  • Test your filter in multiple situations to ensure that it looks clear in both light and dark photos.
  • Light colours work better as dark colours tend to blend into the photo and make it hard to see.
  • Less is more. The less invasive your design the better.
  • Transparency is key. The filter shouldn’t get in the way of the photo but the filter still needs to be noticeable.


Step 2: Uploading

Once you have your design ready, head over to the Snapchat On-Demand ( site to upload your design, login using your Snapchat details and click “Create now.”


Step 3: Timing

Select the date and time you’d like the duration of your filter to run for. Set it about 4 to 5 days in advance as it takes about a day to be approved and if it isn’t you have a couple of days to fix up any problems. Times and dates cannot be edited once you have submitted your filter.


Step 4: Mapping

The image below demonstrates how to create a geofence for your filter by pressing the draw fence button to begin drawing on the map to designate the area where you want the filter to be located. Once you have completed all the above steps and purchased your filter, you will receive a few confirmation emails from Snapchat about your order. It will be reviewed in about one business day.

The starting point for geofilters begins at $5 and goes up into the thousands and snappers are able to design and buy a personalised short-term geofilter. The price is based on the time the geofilter is available (from an hour to 30 days) and the geographical area chosen, ranging from 20 thousand square feet (small city block or business) to 5 million square feet (several larger blocks). It must be something they want to share with their friends in order for them to seem cooler or make their friends jealous. You want the user to become a brand ambassador, whether they know it or not. When the user sends their geofiltered snap to their friends, everyone is seeing the brand’s logo and what their friend is doing. They now have the knowledge of where they are or what they are doing and can do it as well, creating the domino effect.

Instagram Ads


Let’s be honest; we all love Instagram.

While everybody is hyped about their new look and their controversial logo, I want to talk about a different topic – Instagram ads. More specifically, Instagram ads that convert.

You can’t deny that Instagram has that feeling that really sets it apart from other social media websites. Instagram is clean, uncluttered, subtle and to the point. This is one of the reasons why companies and advertisers started using Instagram as a medium to display their ads on.

Frankly, I understand why they do it. With a community of more than 400M users, Instagram is one of the world’s largest mobile ads platforms. And the astonishing thing is that 70% of the users are under 35 years old.

This a huuuge opportunity for companies and brands and they know it.

Now would be the perfect time to quote some big celebrity about why Instagram is so hip these days or what makes Instagram so popular, but to be honest, everybody does that.  So I approached things differently.

I am a soon to be Instagram husband. So I did the unexpected and I asked Heleana, what is it about instagram that she likes so much, and if she’s annoyed by the ads. Here’s her response.

I like Instagram the most out of any other social media app. It’s so easy. It is literally for everyone. Even my technologically-challenged mother has mastered the fine art of Instagramming.

I like how easy it is to see what my friends are doing on the other side of the world, or what new fashion trends will be appearing soon. I follow lots of people that I know, and also a lot of famous people, brands, bands, you name it.

You don’t even realize ads are ads and you ask yourself; woah why am I not following this user yet??

Instagram is an open door for anything, really. Instagram is killin’ the game.

Instagram changed advertising. Brands stopped focusing on creating the ads we are all used to, and they acknowledged the fact that the Instagram community is totally different than the others. They expect a level of authenticity and storytelling that isn’t reflected on Facebook or Twitter.

One thing that millennials love about Instagram is the slick looking visuals. They like to see stories beautifully illustrated.
They care about design. And design; now that’s something we are very good at. So, we want to share some tips with you on how to create better Instagram adverts.

Okay, so let’s start with the basics. There are three ad formats.

Photo ads, Video ads, and Carousel ads.

Each and every one can serve different purposes, and they all have the potential to deliver information as creatively as possible.

When you start an Instagram ad campaign, you have to think about one thing. For at least four seconds, someone will look at your ad. Undisturbed, without knowing what to expect, and without any distraction, that person will look at what you created. So make sure you make it count! Here are three examples of amazing Instagram ads that I would not only look at, but also like them or share them with a friend.

All three of them use storytelling. They use the format of the Ad in their favour.

In order to make successful Instagram ads, don’t over think it. Tell your brand’s story and focus on your design. If you are not a designer, or if you don’t have the time to create new visuals every single time you post on Instagram, we have lot’s of templates for you to choose from.

However, there are a few things you should consider when you are designing your Instagram Ad.

Keep your copy simple

The user’s short attention span, is the biggest enemy of every marketer. You have so little time to grab your user’s attention, so you need to use your copy cleverly, without being loud or obnoxious. Another important aspect is the font you choose. Depending on what you want to say through your Ad, make sure you chose the font accordingly. Make sure you are not over using the same Helvetica or Roboto, and for crying out loud, please don’t use Comic Sans.

Use quality images

Using potato quality images will not look good for your brand. Finding royalty free images can be a huge hassle, and when you post a lot, paying for the images on a limited budget is a burden. Have a clear Call to Action

Last, but not least, your call to action is something you shouldn’t ignore. The most successful Instagram ads have a clear call to action that explains to users exactly what they should expect when they click on the ad.

Of course, a call to action is not always relevant. Depending on if you want awareness, or if you just want clicks, you can decide if a Call to Action is what your advert needs. Take for example the banners that I showed you above. They have no call to actions, they don’t try to sell directly through Instagram, all they want is to raise awareness. They want impressions, not clicks, or maybe “taps” would be more appropriate. I am text block. Click the edit button to change this text.


Although it sounds cliche, think outside of the box. There are so many bad Ads out there, don’t make another one. Focus on your brand and try to tell its story as good as you can.

How visual storytelling is influencing the way PR agencies communicate

Visual storytelling is the way of the future for a lot of companies, putting more money into their online marketing than ever before.  No wonder Public Relation Agencies are starting to join the trend as they are the ones managing the relationships and social media channels for a portfolio of clients.  Historically, PR agencies have been known for their text-heavy communication documents in the form of press releases, email pitches and written statements.  Why are visual heavy posts much more responsive to social media followers than the original text that PR agencies have been well known for? They often require little in the way of explanation, easy for anyone in the online industry to digest and then repost for their own followers.  It is clear that visuals are now simply becoming mandatory elements of any successful digital campaign.  We see it in the sense that the most popular sites and apps these days are heavily photo and video based – Instagram, Snapchat, etc.  There are simple ways of introducing visuals into your content that Victoria Harres highlights in her post on PRNewswire:

“If you are writing a white paper, think about adding call-out graphics that highlight a quote or statistic used in the text.  If you’re publishing a blog post, add a header image and other multimedia to break up the text and help illustrate the topic.”

Visual storytelling done well increases engagement, explains and summarizes complex information, speeds up comprehension, tugs the heartstrings and motivates action.

Not a place you want any of your content.  So what are PR agencies doing to join the ever competitive digital age?

There has even been a change in who they are hiring.  PR agencies are now hiring senior level management from advertising and marketing agencies.

In case you still don’t believe us, we sat down with Laura Lombardi, a Public Relations representative at Jive Communications in Vancouver, Canada.  We wanted to know how her business has changed since using branded templates and how she uses them on a daily basis for her clients.  

Why did you start working with branded digital templates?

We’re a PR and digital agency who manages most of our client’s social media channels as well. All of our PR plans and proposals we put forth are always integrated with both traditional PR tactics as well as social media tactics. We started using branded digital templates as a way to create beautifully eye-catching content completely in-house for our clients.

How do you normally use branded digital templates in your role?

We use it on a regular and ongoing basis. Branded content is a tactic we use within all of our social media strategies and something we encourage all clients to take advantage of. We usually aim to build branded content into their social channels a few times a week.

How has this changed the work that you do with/for your clients?

We’re able to produce really eye-catching content for them that looks professional and aligns with their brand. They’re proud of the content and how it helps ramp up the imagery associated with their brand.

How many times a day would you use these branded design templates? If not daily, how many times weekly? Monthly?

About 3 – 4 times per week! Depending on how many client social media channels we’re managing at once.  

And finally, in your professional opinion, who are best suited to be using these programs?

PR agencies should all be striving to create a digital side since our media landscape has changed so much. Branded content programs like Canva and Desygner are great options for firms who aren’t yet producing their own designed content in house. Having this templated option allows agencies the ability to create beautiful content for clients who may not have the budget to hire professional designers.
